S-3 Communication Section 

PURPOSE OF

COMMUNICATIONS SECTION

  Communications Section (S3) is a vital part of the ISL network as it allows members to stay in touch with one another, quickly adjust to changing situations, change orders or missions on the fly, provided real time situation reports, and net working with other members. Communications play a vital role is all aspects of the ISL from personal communications to networking with other HAM operators around the world.

  Without Communications, you have chaos which is why it is a vital part of all ISL Operations and training so members will be well trained and experienced on all the Communications tools they have at their disposal.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES OF COMMUNICATIONS

   Members of the Communications Section (S3) have quite few responsibilities within the Sections to maintain the ability for members to keep in contact and be able to accomplish their tasks. These responsibilities are as follows:

 1.Maintain and monitor the ISL website.

 2. Monitor and keep in touch with other ISL units in the state, as well as give updates to the Chain of Command when requested.

 3. Monitor and Admin ISL Telegram Channels.

 4. Monitor ISL alert channels. Telegram/GMRS/HAM/Text.

 5. Program and maintain Individual Members Radios, Base Station radios, and Repeaters.

 6. Program monitor and maintain all ISL HAM radios.

COMMUNICATIONS SECTION GOALS

  The goals of the Communications Section (S3) are as stated above, to keep ISL Chain of Command, Members, Sections, Units and Networks in constant reliable communications with each other. It is VITAL for any group to have good communications or there is mass confusion about events and activities going on. The Communication Section is a diverse Section as it has job slots that can accommodate almost any level of experience, from relay runners, monitors, to Extra Class HAM Operators. If someone is willing and driven to serve their community, and is very responsible person, there is a space for them in the Communications Section (S3). As new forms of communications and social media come out, the ISL will incorporate them into the group.

  Advertising and social media such as videos, informative, educational and entertainment also falls under the responsibility of the Communications Section (S3), as well as production and editing of these videos. Videos and MEMES are a very effective way to capture and inform people in a very short amount of time. As new technology evolves, so shall the ISL.
