S-1 Family Services Section
Family Services (S1) is the backbone of the ISL. Responsibilities of the Family Services Section is one of, if not THE, most important topics in the whole ISL SUPPORT NETWORK. This Section brings the “humanity” to any disaster either natural or man-made, and they bring hope and relief where there is none because of unforeseen circumstances. Family Service Section (S1) provides food, water, assistance, and hope to ISL members in need, whether in good times or even when TSHTF. Unlike many other Community Support Networks, the ISL uses Family Services to bridge the gap between the Humanitarian and the Warrior.
Purpose of the Family Services Section (S1)
The Family Services Section (S1) is one of the biggest sections in the ISL, as it should be, because their responsibilities are enormous. The scope of their involvement is almost endless as it affects and contributes to every other Section, Support and Field Sections both directly and indirectly. Family Services Section (S1) also possess the vault of knowledge for primitive and modern self-sufficiency methods, both in written form and in their minds. They are highly skilled at Food Preservation both long and short term and the different methods that are used to guarantee that our members will not face starvation, ever. There are plenty of assets in Indiana to be used to make sure that food will be available, and Family Services know them all, and will be masters of not only using these assets, but teaching them to others as well, knowledge is power. Family Services will also be responsible for teaching and raising the children. The children as well as the adults, need to have the necessary skills to rebuild the society and country in a moral and just manor, as befitting of the intent of the Founding Fathers. They are the future of this country, and they will inherit it after we are all gone, so they MUST be well informed, morally just, intelligent, honorable, honest, hardworking, and be willing to guarantee to their children that Liberty will stand a chance in their own generation, Knowledge is POWER.
Responsibilities of Family Services
-
Children: As stated, the children MUST be raised in a moral fashion and given every opportunity to learn and grow physically, mentally, and spiritually. They need to be taught TRUE history, not an altered version of it. They also need to be taught the skills that our grandparents had, knowing how to do many of the tasks we have lost over the years as Americans, and revive those skills. Learning the ways of a Community Support Network and why we do what we do as Americans and the TRUE SPIRIT of 1776, and to hopefully always keep it alive.
-
Food Storage: Both short- and long-term techniques, and all the different methods of preserving food from the primitive to the modern. It is IMPOSSIBLE to have too much food put back and during troubled times it will be used as an asset and one of the most important bartering tools imaginable. Family Services (S1) not only master this process, but be great teachers of it also, so people can learn to help themselves, if people are not willing to help themselves, then they are not worth helping at all. Dehydrating, solar dehydrating, canning, oven canning, smoking, and even freeze drying are all great methods to preserve food, among many other methods.
-
Gardening: To be able to put back locally grown food, you must be able to grow it when none is available from conventional means. Knowledge of nutrition, what grows well in Indiana and which season, type of soil, sun/shade, and how to gather seeds from the harvest for next year’s planting season is MANDATORY. This subject should not be taken lightly, as one screw up here can easily cause crop failure and starvation for many people. Herbs are a very important crop to grow as well, not only as seasoning for cooking, but medicinal herbs as well for Medical Section (S2) to use for their needs. Keeping ourselves healthy is a high priority especially during times of heightened sickness. The Herbs can be processed for long term storage as well. Medical Section (S2) will assist Family Services Section (S1) with these tasks. Family Services are in charge of maintaining the ISL Seed Bank so that we will always have a supply of locally grown Heritage Heirloom seeds to use. Heritage Heirloom seeds are the ONLY type of seeds that can be planted year after year, so these, of course, are the only type we will use to plant with as our S.O.P. (Standard Operating Procedure).
-
Livestock: Animals are necessity for self-sufficiency; they provide the locally grown food that will be needed to create a self-sufficient community. Rabbits, Goats, Chickens, and sometimes Cows if land permits, are some of the best choices out there for benefits to humans that can survive all the different weather seasonal changes in Indiana as well. Family Services (S1) are responsible for raising and the care as well as butchering of these animals for use by the ISL Members. Understanding their dietary needs, strengths and weaknesses of each animal and the different breeds, are of utmost importance.
Food Preparation: Family Services (S1) is responsible for all food preparation and its distribution. They plan, prepare, and serve the meals inside the ISL organization, either at events or out in the field. If food or other sustenance is to be sent to another ISL Section while conducting training, or in a real-world mission to help others in need, Family Services (S1) will be responsible to fulfill those requirements. Keeping food serving utensils, pot, pans, etc. clean and sterile are all part of Family Services (S1) duties, as well as gathering, chopping, and stacking firewood to cook with outside.
Family Services (S1) is comprised of ANY member willing to help no matter if they have medical restrictions, physical restrictions, or age restrictions being very young or very old, everyone can contribute in some manner or another. Everyone can do SOMETHING to help the ISL to serve its local community.
