ISL Handgun Basics and Safety Class

ISL Handgun Basics and Safety Class

The ISL Handgun Basic and Safety Class is the introduction into the training classes that deal with handguns in the ISL. Safety being our number one concern, it is the first topic we focus on, safety is the utmost importance when dealing with ANY firearm. Next comes the mechanics of the handgun. What are the features, how it operates, how does it load, the proper way to hold and handle the gun, are the next in importance. Once the students feel comfortable with their handguns, we move to the range where we will have the students load their handguns and safely engage targets.

SUBJECTS COVERED

1. Safely clear all student’s handguns.

 2. Review the 4 firearms safety rules.

 3. Review each of the handguns the students will be using.

 4. Go over identifying the different parts of the handgun, their names, purpose and function on the student’s particular handgun.

 5. Propper use of snap caps (dummy rounds) to understand how to load the handgun correctly and safely.

 6. Correct way to hold and aim a handgun.

 7.  Establish a correct sight picture.

 8.  Watch a short video on the internal mechanics and functioning of a handgun.

 9. Learn about the different accessories that are available for the student’s handgun.

ISL Carry and Mechanics Class

  ISL Carry and Mechanics Class

The purpose of this class is to teach the student the different ways to carry a handgun such as different types of holsters, belly bands, shoulder holsters and purses just to name a few. These are unique to each type/model of handgun and the unique fit to each student. We also cover the different types of handgun accessories and how they are very necessary to consider when the student purchases a holster for their handgun.

The second part of the class is going over the Indiana State Laws for carrying a handgun legally in the state. We provide copies of the basic laws, answer questions, help the student understand the laws and the intent thereof. We provide advice (not legal advice as we are not lawyers), but rather a basic understanding of the laws given out by the state and how they apply to the student.

The third part of our class is we teach the student to identify the major components inside and out of their handgun, how to disassemble/reassemble their handgun. Teaching the student how to properly clean, and maintain their handgun, rounds out this particular hands-on class.
